Exercise is the fourth most important need for the bodyāafter air, water, and sleep. Movement is what activates everything else you do for your health, and without it, those efforts fall flat.
š” Why Movement Matters More Than You Think
Thereās a quiet engine behind everything good your body does. Itās not fancy. Itās not glamorous. And yet it powers your brain, your mood, your digestion, your sleep, your strengthāyour everything.
That engine is movement.
Not just exerciseāintentional, joyful, daily movement.
After air, water, and sleep, your bodyās next deepest craving is movement. And like all the best things in life, you only realize how important it is when itās gone.
As with all of these tips, this is my personal opinion of what works for me. I’m not a doctor, so check with your medical professional on anything I say here.
𧬠The Real Health Hierarchy
Letās remind ourselves:
You can survive for weeks without food,
Days without water,
But only minutes without air.
And once youāve got air, water, and sleep⦠itās movement that lets you actually use all of that properly. Without movement, your blood doesnāt flow right. Your mood doesnāt lift. Your body doesnāt clean itself out or build itself back.
Movement is the switch that powers the system.
You’ll notice I left out food. And I put it 6th out of 6 in my hierarchy of needs for a reasonāit’s more an addiction than a constant need. You don’t even need it every day, let alone 3 (or more!?) times a day. Too many people make far too much money out of what is called “food” these days, for this to be a popular idea. But when you finally get to eating one one meal a day, if that, you learn very fast what makes you feel amazing, and it’s not food! Needed, yes, but not in the quantities and lack of quality that has become “normal” for most people in the west and wherever western styles of eating (The S.A.D. diet) has spread.
š The Perfect Feedback Loop
Like breath, hydration, and restāmovement doesnāt work in isolation.
It makes the others better. And they make it better, too.
- Breathe better ā move better
- Sleep deeper ā move more
- Move daily ā sleep deeper
- Drink well ā flush out stress
- Move well ā feel joy
Each habit multiplies the others. Together, they build energy, confidence, and uncommon joy.
š§āāļø My Story: The Sub-Six-Minute Mile
Over 20 years ago, I set a bold goal:
Run a mile in under six minutes.
I was no Olympian, just stubborn.
For two months, I ran every dayārain, shine, sore legs or not.
One day, it happened: 5 minutes, 59 seconds.
That feeling? It still fuels me today.
When you do something hard, you never forget it. You carry that win deep down inside you. It counters all the “you’re not good enough” thoughts and people. And you carry it for the rest of your life. You become unstoppable!
š Only about 5% of people on Earth will ever run that fast.
Even fewer ever try. But itās not the number that mattersāitās the effort, the push, the proof that you can.
š„ How Movement Changes Your Mind
You donāt just exercise your bodyāyou exercise your emotions, too.
ā
Movement increases dopamine and serotonin (the happy brain chemicals).
ā
It reduces cortisol (the stress hormone).
ā
It helps you think clearer, breathe deeper, and feel strongerāinside and out.
On my low-energy days, movement was the match that re-lit the fire.
Even a 10-minute walk could take me from āmehā to magnetic.
āļø Easy Ways to Move Every Day
You donāt need to train for a marathon. You just need to move with purpose.
Hereās whatās worked for meāand thousands of others:
š¶āāļø Walking meetings ā Stretch your legs while you talk
š± Standing phone calls ā Movement over mindless scrolling
šÆ Mini-challenges ā 10 squats at the top of each hour
š§¹ Housework as cardio ā Put on music, clean like a machine
šŗ Dancing in the kitchen ā Because joy IS movement
Whatever you do, make it yours. Make it fun. Make it daily.
āļø The Sun + Movement Combo = Superpower
Weāre made of light. Literally.
The sun recharges us like a plug recharges a phone.
When you move outdoors, you get the double boost:
š Vitamin D for your bones and mood
ā° Circadian rhythm reset for better sleep
šØ Fresh air to supercharge every breath
If youāre feeling stuck or sluggish, go outside and walk. Itās medicine you donāt have to swallow.
š“ Movement and Sleep: The Ultimate Team
Movement improves sleep.
Sleep improves movement.
One fuels the other in a loop that leads to better health, more energy, and faster recovery.
When I donāt move much during the day, I feel it at night. My sleep is restless. But when I move intentionallyāeven just 20ā30 minutesāI sleep like a rock and wake up ready to win.
š« What Happens When You Donāt Move
Your body is designed to move. So when you donāt?
- Muscles weaken
- Joints stiffen
- Brain fog rolls in
- Depression risks rise
- Energy tanks
And worst of all? You lose your spark.
Your zest. Your edge. That fire inside.
Thatās why movement isnāt just about fitnessāitās about freedom. It keeps you living, not just surviving.
š§± Build Your Life on a Solid Foundation
Hereās the foundation Iāve come to live by:
- š¬ļø Breathe right
- š§ Drink right
- š“ Sleep right
- š Move right
- š Take in light
- š„© Eat clean
When you build on those six, you can go anywhere. Do anything. Feel like yourself again.
Itās not complicated. Itās just consistent.
šÆ Second-to-last Thought
We live in a world that profits from your burnout.
But you donāt have to play that game.
You can breathe deeply, hydrate well, sleep deeply, and move daily. You can plug back into your own energy sourceāand let that carry you forward.
It starts with one simple choice:
Move your body.
And let your life catch up.
š„ Daily Takeaway:
Movement is energy in action. Use it, or lose it. But the moment you move again, you light the fire inside.
Letās move forwardātogether.
š See You Tomorrow, My Friend
Warmly,
Paul
