Day 17: My Weight Loss Slowed – Pushing Past Plateaus on the Carnivore Diet

Wow, what a day! My blood pressure shot up. Weight loss was minimal. But my blood glucose is still amazing.

The weight loss has slowed down a lot, which likely means my body is starting to plateau. This happens when your body becomes more efficient at adapting to the Carnivore Diet. If I don’t do something about it, the weight loss will remain low, even if I fast for days and days with NoMAD (No Meals A Day). The key to pushing past this is to introduce variations to my usual routine.

So today, I decided to switch things up and have carbs with my evening meal. Normally, that means I’ll gain 2.2 – 4.4 lbs (1 – 2 kg) overnight, but then I’ll lose that weight over a few days, and my daily weight loss will bounce back to about 1 lb per day. This might become a new one of my “Rules to Diet By,” but I’ll see how it goes. I’m still figuring out the best eating plan, so nothing’s off the table yet.

Sure, this might slow down the time it takes to hit my goal weight, but slow progress is still progress.

Daily Progress: Tracking the Numbers

Here’s where I stand today:

Weight Loss: Navigating Plateaus

2 Jan 2025 – Day 1235.5 (106.8 kg)
9 Jan 2025 – Week 1224.6 (101.9 kg)
16 Jan 2025 – Week 2217.4 (98.6 kg)
17 Jan 2025216.7 (98.3 kg)
18 Jan 2025216.5 (98.2 kg)

Report: Lost 0.2 lbs (0.1 kg) today.

This brings my total weight loss to 19.0 lbs (8.6 kg) in 16 days.

An average of 1.2 lbs (0.5 kg) a day.

This small weight loss today made me realize I might need to reassess how I’m using the Carnivore Diet. I now see that plans should be written in sand—the goal is what should stay solid. The key is being flexible. If I can’t accept change, then I’ll stay stuck in the same place.

Report: My blood pressure was up today.

Systolic blood pressure

The first number, which shows the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats, is stayed the same.

Diastolic blood pressure

The second number, which measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart rests between beats, is down by 0.5.

I’ve moved to Sydney for a job that requires me to keep my blood pressure below 140/90. They’ve given me time to get it under control, but I’m not sure I can wait long enough for it to come down naturally. So, I’ve decided to start taking my medications again today.

Unfortunately, that means I won’t be able to track how the Carnivore Diet affects my blood pressure right now. But once it’s at acceptable levels, I plan to experiment again and see if the diet can help keep it there.

It also means I can’t fast as I have to take the medications with food. So, I will go onto OMAD (One Meal A Day) on a regular basis instead.

Blood Glucose: Progress and Stability

18 Jan 20254.2

Report: My blood glucose went up by 0.2 today!

This is still great news—13 days in a row with blood glucose in the normal range (3.9-5.5 mmol/L). Considering what I’ve seen in others who ignored diabetes until it became a bigger problem, I’m incredibly grateful to have found a solution for myself!

The Journey Continues

Even with the small challenges, I’m feeling strong and motivated. This journey isn’t easy, but each day brings me closer to my goal. The Carnivore Diet has brought about more change than I expected, and I’m eager to see what comes next.

I’ll keep adjusting as I go and share what I learn along the way.

See you again tomorrow! 😊

Warmly,
Paul
