Day 13: A Bump in the Road – Facing Weight Gain with Courage and Discipline

It’s Day 13 on my Carnivore Diet journey, and today was a little humbling. Despite my best efforts, I’ve gained some weight—2.7 lbs (1.2 kg) to be exact.

That brings my total weight loss to 16.8 lbs (7.6 kg) in the last 12 days, which is still a win overall. But let’s talk about the journey, because this is where the real transformation happens—not just in the numbers, but in the way I think about my health, my body, and my goals.

The Struggle with Discipline

Around 3:00 pm today, I felt that familiar hunger coming on. I wanted to snack. Badly. But I stuck to my plan, and my “Rules To Diet By” came in handy.

I’m doing OMAD (One Meal A Day) today, with my one meal scheduled for 5:30 pm, and I knew if I broke that rule, it would set me back.

It’s in these little moments where discipline matters most. If I give in to that impulse, it’s not just a snack—it’s a crack in the foundation of my commitment.

So, I reminded myself: it’s a game worth playing when there are boundaries I’m unwilling to cross.

I’m not just doing this for me; I’m doing it for you, my readers. When I give my word to the world, I can’t break it. That accountability gives me the strength to push through.

Daily Progress: The Numbers Don’t Always Tell the Whole Story

Here’s how the numbers look for today:

Weight Loss

2 Jan 2025 – Day 1235.5 (106.8 kg)
9 Jan 2025 – Week 1224.6 (101.9 kg)
10 Jan 2025222.9 (101.1 kg)
11 Jan 2025218.9 (99.3 kg)
12 Jan 2025218.3 (99.0 kg)
13 Jan 2025215.2 (97.6 kg)
14 Jan 2025218.7 (99.2 kg)

Report: Gained 2.7 lbs (1.2 kg) today.

This brings my total to 16.8 lbs (7.6 kg) in 12 days!

While I’ve lost a solid amount of weight overall, this temporary weight gain is part of the process. It’s easy to get discouraged, but I’ve been on this journey enough times to know that weight fluctuations are normal, especially on the Carnivore Diet.

This isn’t the time to quit—it’s the time to double down, stay disciplined, and keep going. I’ve learned that if I’ve had anything “cheaty” like soft cheese, I need to correct that by adjusting my food choices or my fasting schedule.

And honestly, I think part of my fluctuation today might be due to the change in environment. I’m staying somewhere else for a while, and it’s been harder to track my weight with the scales not set up in their usual place. But I’ve learned to be patient with these small challenges.

Blood Pressure (BP): A Positive Trend

Even though my weight didn’t go down today, there’s good news on the blood pressure front. Here’s how it’s been going:

DateBP – Before Food
(Best of 3)
BP – Before Food
(Worst of 3)
Average
2 Jan 25 – Day 1155/103166/102160.5/102.5
9 Jan 25 – Week 1159/108162/98160.5/103

13 Jan 2025133/86142/88137.5/87
14 Jan 2025124/81137/88130.5/84.5

Report: BP is steadily falling.

Systolic blood pressure

The first number, which measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats, is down by 7 points!

Diastolic blood pressure

The second number, which measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart rests between beats, is down by 2.5 points.

This steady decline is a huge win. It shows me that the Carnivore Diet is working on some levels beyond just weight loss.

This, combined with my lower glucose levels, is proof that what I’m doing is having a positive impact on my health.

Blood Glucose: Steady and Strong

I’ve been tracking my blood glucose levels as well, and here’s the good news:

DateBlood Glucose – Before Food
(mmol/L)
2 Jan 2025 – Day 17.2
9 Jan 2025 – Week 14.6
10 Jan 20254.6
11 Jan 20254.1
12 Jan 20254.4
13 Jan 20254.4
14 Jan 20254.4

Report: Blood glucose is holding steady at 4.4.

I’m happy to report that my blood glucose is holding steady at 4.4 mmol/L. For me, this is a huge success. I’ve eliminated the risk of diabetes from my life, and that’s something I don’t take lightly. Many people struggle with the consequences of diabetes, and I’m determined to stay on this path to avoid that fate.

Lessons Learned and Reflections

The Carnivore Diet can be tough, especially when I feel bored with the food choices. Don’t get me wrong, I love steak, chicken, and cheese—but when it’s all you eat for days on end, it can start to feel boring.

I’ve had moments of doubt, and when I gained weight today, it definitely didn’t help my motivation. But here’s the truth: the weight loss, the improved blood pressure, and the stable blood glucose are all worth it.

They keep me going even when things get boring. So, even though today’s weight gain is a bit of a setback, I know tomorrow is another chance to make progress.

I remind myself that the most important thing is keeping committed. I’ve been here before, and I know this diet works—so I’ll stick with it. Tomorrow’s another day to reset and refocus.

See you tomorrow! 😊

Warmly,
Paul
