Just over two weeks in. Wow, time really does fly when you’re on a journey like this. It’s hard to believe how much can happen in such a short time.
There have been more highs than lows, and that’s always a good sign.
Today has been a bit of a slower day. I’ve gone two days without needing to go to the bathroom, which isn’t typical for me. No appointments to rush to, so I decided to take the opportunity for a Salt Water Flush. That got things moving, and I’m feeling better for it.
As for my food, I have to eat tomorrow—whether I want to or not. The food in my fridge will spoil if I don’t, and I don’t like the idea of wasting it. So, no matter what the scales say, I’ll be eating tomorrow. It’s a simple decision, but sometimes even those can be challenging when you’re focusing on the numbers.
Looking at the readings from 2 to 5 days ago, I’m starting to wonder if they were correct. I might not have had the scale on a perfectly level surface, or I may not have taken enough readings. So now, I make sure to take multiple readings to get a more reliable result. It’s a small thing, but it’s helping me stay grounded and avoid unnecessary frustration.
That said, I’ll admit this week has definitely felt like a bit of a slow period. Progress hasn’t been as fast as I hoped, but I know that’s part of the process.
Daily Progress: Tracking the Numbers
Here’s where I stand today:
Weight Loss
Date | Weight (lbs) |
2 Jan 2025 – Day 1 | 235.5 (106.8 kg) |
9 Jan 2025 – Week 1 | 224.6 (101.9 kg) |
10 Jan 2025 | 222.9 (101.1 kg) |
11 Jan 2025 | 218.9 (99.3 kg) |
12 Jan 2025 | 218.3 (99.0 kg) |
13 Jan 2025 | 215.2 (97.6 kg) |
14 Jan 2025 | 218.7 (99.2 kg) |
15 Jan 2025 | 216.5 (98.2 kg) |
16 Jan 2025 | 217.4 (98.6 kg) |
Report: Up 0.9 lbs (0.4 kg) today.
This brings my total weight loss to 18.1 lbs (8.2 kg) in 2 weeks!
It’s a bit frustrating, but I’m not panicking. As I gained weight today, I gave my body another day of NoMAD (No Meals A Day). I’m learning to see that as a reward for the weight gain, not for me, but for my body.
As I progress through this journey, I find that the physical desire to eat is decreasing, but the mental craving is still there—just not as strong as before. It’s something I have to keep in check.
I had been looking forward to trying out a new recipe I found online, but that will have to wait. I won’t make a fixed plan anymore. I learned that when I expect something on a specific day, and it doesn’t happen, it can create extra stress. That’s not helpful to me. So, from now on, I’ll set expectations without attaching them to a specific time or date. This way, I can stay hopeful, but not let the clock control my feelings.
The increase in autophagy (“self-eating” in Greek—a process where the body recycles damaged cells to build new ones) from fasting 24 hours or more, is much more valuable than the emotional struggle of food addiction. The short-term pain is worth the long-term gains.
Blood Pressure (BP): A Positive Trend
My BP is a bit up and down:
Date | BP – Before Food (Best of 3) | BP – Before Food (Worst of 3) | Average |
2 Jan 25 – Day 1 | 155/103 | 166/102 | 160.5/102.5 |
9 Jan 25 – Week 1 | 159/108 | 162/98 | 160.5/103 |
10 Jan 2025 | 158/101 | 171/98 | 164.5/99.5 |
11 Jan 2025 | 169/106 | 152/97 | 160.5/101.5 |
12 Jan 2025 | 145/81 | 142/90 | 143.5/85.5 |
13 Jan 2025 | 133/86 | 142/88 | 137.5/87 |
14 Jan 2025 | 124/81 | 137/88 | 130.5/84.5 |
15 Jan 2025 | 121/88 | 137/81 | 129/84.5 |
16 Jan 2025 | 132/83 | 135/87 | 133.5/85 |
Report: My blood pressure was up today.
Systolic blood pressure
The first number, which measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats, is up by 4.5.
Diastolic blood pressure
The second number, which measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart rests between beats, is up by 0.5.
My blood pressure is back in the high normal range today (130/85 – 139/89), but I’m encouraged by the overall trend. I know it might fluctuate a bit on the way down, but as long as the general direction is downward, I’m happy to see progress!
Blood Glucose: Looking Good
On the glucose front, things are looking good:
Date | Blood Glucose – Before Food (mmol/L) |
2 Jan 2025 – Day 1 | 7.2 |
9 Jan 2025 – Week 1 | 4.6 |
10 Jan 2025 | 4.6 |
11 Jan 2025 | 4.1 |
12 Jan 2025 | 4.4 |
13 Jan 2025 | 4.4 |
14 Jan 2025 | 4.4 |
15 Jan 2025 | 4.8 |
16 Jan 2025 | 4.1 |
Report: My blood glucose went down by 0.7 today!
That’s 11 days straight with my glucose in the normal range (3.9–5.5 mmol/L). It’s great to see at least one number consistently moving in the right direction. I’m very happy with this progress.
Overall Progress
Overall, I’m very happy with how things are going on the Carnivore Diet. Adding fasting (NoMAD) into the mix has not only helped with weight loss but also improved my health in ways that are far more meaningful than just the number on the scale.
I know that carrying less extra weight is better for me, especially when it comes to my arthritic left knee. It feels much better carrying around 17 lbs (8 kg) less after just two weeks.
I’ll keep going, one step at a time.
See you again tomorrow! 😊
Warmly,
Paul
