Day Nine: Fasting with Travel – Simplifying the Journey

Long-distance travel in Australia is no small feat. As a kid, I used to wonder why my parents always kept a roll of toilet paper in the car. Now I understand—it’s because bathroom stops can be hundreds of miles apart! While today’s route wasn’t quite that remote, the miles still stretched on.

One of the many perks of being nine days into the Carnivore Diet is a complete lack of appetite. So, I decided to take advantage of this and fast throughout my 1,000+ mile (1,600 km) road trip.

As I write this, it’s been 30 hours since I last ate. By the time I reach my final destination tomorrow evening, I’ll have completed a 50-hour fast. Knowing how beneficial fasting is for my body, I’m glad I took this opportunity to push myself further.

My Daily Progress

Weight Loss

DateWeight (lbs)
2 Jan 2025 – Day 1235.5 (106.8 kg)
9 Jan 2025 – Week 1224.6 (101.9 kg)
10 Jan 2025222.9 (101.1 kg)

Report: Down 1.7 lbs (0.8 kg) today, bringing my total to 12.6 lbs (5.7 kg) in just over a week.

What a great result! I’m very happy with this progress. To take it to the next level, I’m fasting for today and most of tomorrow.

I did have 3 pinches of salt, dissolved in water this evening to keep my electrolytes balanced. It’s a small but essential part of staying healthy on this diet, especially during longer fasts.

Report: BP is up and down.

Systolic blood pressure

The first number, which measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats, is up by 4.

Diastolic blood pressure

The second number, which measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart rests between beats, is down by 3.5.

The results are mixed today, but I’m still optimistic. As my weight drops, I’m confident both numbers will trend downward.

Blood Glucose

9 Jan 2025 – Week 14.6

Report: Blood glucose remains steady at its lowest point so far; 4.6 mmol/L.

This is firmly in the normal range (3.9 to 5.6 mmol/L). I’m very happy with this result.

Eight Days In: ZERO Hunger and Cravings

It’s incredible not to feel ruled by food anymore. My only real temptation comes from the smell of a BBQ or a nearby restaurant cooking meat. Even then, it’s fleeting and easy to resist with my newfound energy, clarity, and motivation.

With my brain fog gone and discipline feeling second nature, life is looking better every day.

Less is More

The journey today was long, but the simplicity of fasting made it feel lighter. Fasting isn’t just about skipping meals; it’s about giving my body a chance to reset and heal.

Tomorrow, I’ll share the results of the second half of my two-day fast.

See you tomorrow with another update! 😊

Warmly,
Paul
